New Delhi: Senior Congresss MP Rayapati Sambasiva Rao , who has resigned his MP seat and his membership of the party, met TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, who has been on fast-unto-death at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in Delhi.
Rayapati reached the venue of Naidu’s fast and held a brief discussion with him. Later, speaking to the media, he denied the suggestion that he is going to join TDP very soon. But he readily said, he “will take the right decision at the right time.”
Rayapati said his demand for keeping the state united remains. He however added that he will agree to division of the state if and only if Hyderabad is made a Union territory and the two states will have separate capitals.
Rayapati said he has been serving the party since last four decades and he saved the party by winning elections even in the face of former Chief Minister NTR ruled the roost. He said leaders like him have been short-hanged by the Congress leadership and they have no other go but to search for other avenues as “if I contest on a Congress ticket, I will lose my deposit.”
Before starting for Delhi, Rayapati expressed his solidarity to Naidu’s fasting in protest to the Centre’s aggressive manner in going ahead with bifurcation.
Babu has been fasting in Delhi for the last four days with a demand to “protect Telugu people.
Observers believe that the veteran leader is clearing the decks for joining the TDP.
