YSR Congress party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy refused to take food offered by jail authorities in Chenchalguda jail on the first day of his indefinite fast against state bifurcation on Sunday.
The jail authorities said Jagan began fast at 6.00 am in the morning without taking breakfast. He sat on dharna in the special cell where he was lodged in the jail in connection with assets cases. Jagan did not relent to the requests made by jail authorities and other prisons to call off strike and continued his agitation.
The jail authorities said Jagan did not seek permission from authorities in written to sit on dharna. As per the rules, action will only be taken against those who sat on dharna after seeking permission. In this case, authorities have no right to put pressure on Jagan to call off stir. The authorities were monitoring health condition of Jagan from evening.
