It’s all official now. Hyderabad born Satya Nadella has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to Computer giant Microsoft. World’s largest computer manufacturer made a formal announcement on Tuesday. As reported widely earlier, the 46-year-old, who was heading Cloud Computing, is elevated to top spot by replacing incumbent CEO Steve Ballmer. Satya is the third CEO in Microsoft’s 38-year history after Bill Gates, Ballmer.
Satya now joined the circle of India-origin executives managing top global companies- Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo, Ajay Banga, of MasterCard, and Deutsche Bank Co-CEO Anshu Jain. In his email to Microsoft employees on his first day as CEO Mr. Nadella said, ‘Today is a very humbling day for me. It reminds me of my very first day at Microsoft, 22 years ago… I saw then how clearly we empower people to do magical things with our creations and ultimately make the world a better place.’
Mr. Nadella who holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Manipal University, a master’s in computer science from the University of Wisconsin, and an MBA from the University of Chicago, joined Microsoft in 1992. –
