Ever since Chiranjeevi retired from movies, discussion has been going on about who is the next number one hero of Telugu cinema. Mahesh Babu, Pawan Kalyan, NTR are the names that are featured in this discussion regularly. Few of them consider Ram Charan and Prabhas as prime contenders.
If we take the last three movies of the above heroes as the proof to their current form and craze, Prabhas and Ram Charan still have a long way to go. Both of them scored big hits in the recent times, but they haven’t scored a blockbuster in the recent past. NTR too is struggling to find that much needed big hit and is lagging far behind in the race with his recent failure Ramayya Vastavayya.
So the competition is currently going on between Pawan Kalyan and Mahesh Babu, who are undoubtedly among the peak of their career, both in terms of craze and commercial success. Mahesh’s last three films were hits. Dookudu collected a share of 56 crores and that was followed by a decent hit Businessman and good hit SVSC. These three films collected a total share of 148+ Crore rupees.
Pawan Kalyan, who has bounced back with Gabbar Singh, is just unstoppable now. Although his CMGR didn’t live up to expectations and made only 34 Crores in full run, his latest film Attarintiki Daredi is racing ahead to be the biggest hit in history of Tollywood. His last three films total share is more than 165 Crore Rupees at the moment and we can add five more to the tally as AD is still running in theaters.
Going by these stats, Pawan is currently leading the Numero Uno race and it would be interesting to see how his and Mahesh’s next films will fare.
