Jagan’s Plan B: Sharmila from Allagadda Assembly?

Jagan's Plan B: Sharmila from Allagadda Assembly?

Jagan’s Plan B: Sharmila from Allagadda Assembly?

With people of Andhra Pradesh giving a clear mandate to TDP in the recently held polls, beleaguered YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is left with no choice but to make up his mind to sit in the Opposition in Assembly. Quite contrary to it, fear is looming large for Jagan, YSR Congress. Although, Jagan is putting up a brave face in public and media, underneath among party leaders, his own family members there is an eerie of silence, fear. Amid reports that Enforcement Directorate would be after him very soon and has got substantial evidence to put Jagan behind the bars, YSRCP top brass, including Jagan, is deeply worried over who will wield the party “if he is back to jail”. Who will take on Chandra Babu Naidu in the house of Legislative Assembly if Jagan is in jail? Who is the alternative to carry off the party on his/her shoulders?

According to highly-placed sources, Jagan is deeply mulling over to send YS Sharmila to Assembly. Jagan is reportedly planning to field his sister in the by-polls of Allagadda Assembly as the candidate Bhuma Shobha Nagireddy passed away in a fatal accident days before the election. Although, Jagan does have plans to put his mother-honorary president YS Vijayamma in fray for the Assembly, given that she tasted a huge defeat after contesting from Vizag parliament, she may not be put in fray from Allagadda. Jagan must have reminisced his old days he spent in jail and how Sharmila worked for the party. But why didn’t Jagan offer Sharmila Vizag Lok Sabha seat? Why he feared that Sharmila would be another power-centre in the party? Now that he may go to jail, he again want to rope in his sister for his selfish reasons. Won’t they send wrong signals to people?

Keeping all the political equations aside, the big question on everyone’s lips is What about offering ticket to Shobha Nagireddy’s elder daughter from the Allagadda constituency in by-polls? If the bereaved family would not get the ticket and contrary Jagan’s family who are non-locales contest the polls, there are chances that “Shobha Nagireddy” sentiment would work against YSRCP. Moreover, since TDP is in power, there are more chances for people to incline towards TDP for better governance, development, opine political pundits. Also, the fact that Nandyala MP SPY Reddy joined TDP and Kurnool MP Butta Renuka joining TDP, there is going to have its affect on voters in Allagadda. Considering all the above, one thing is pretty clear: Jagan has prepared a Plan B if he goes to jail. The only weapon, plan, option he has now is YS Sharmila whom he can trust.

YS Vijayamma to contest from Allagadda

Hyderabad: YS Vijayamma’s E lection result had shocked the entire family. But it looks like fortune has knocked on her doors again, in the form of Allagadda!

With YCP leader Shobha Nagi Reddy passing away before elections the EC did not cancel the election but announced that in case the thespian won there would be a by-election. Since the deceased leader won the seat, Jagan is contemplating on fielding Vijayamma from Allagadda.

At the Idupulapaya meet Jagan was elected as the YSRCP’s CLP leader, but with the impending CBI investigation ahead, Jagan trusts no one more than his mother to succeed him as opposition party leaders just in case he goes on a trial!

It needs to be noted here that Shobha Nagi Reddy is a leader who was accepted by people there regardless of the party she represented. So her victory from the constituency was anticipated. Now it remains to be seen if Vijayamma can pull off from the constituency!

Nawaz Sharif confirms historic trip to India

DELHI/ISLAMABAD: After three days of ‘will he, won’t he’ speculation, the Pakistan government confirmed on Saturday Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had — in the face of opposition from hardliners at home — accepted India’s PM-designate Narendra Modi’s unanticipated invitation to Saarc heads of government to attend his swearing-in on Monday.

Sharif’s confirmation, which comes a day after the terror attack on India’s consulate in Herat, Afghanistan, and Lashkar boss Hafiz Saeed’s warning against coming to New Delhi, sets the stage for an unprecedented visit and escalated the inaugural ceremony into a star-studded international show of strength for Modi even before his formal takeover.

It was an open secret, right from the beginning, that Sharif wanted to make the trip, and was heartily supported by his foreign office, his daughter and brother, and political colleagues on both sides of the aisle. But he had to weather a quiet storm within the military-intelligence establishment, which is what triggered the uncertainty over whether he would finally say yes.

The Pakistan army, which largely calls the shots on India, was reportedly not particularly enthusiastic. The new army chief Raheel Sharief belongs to the mould of the conservative general who is instinctively antipathetic to India. Also, Sharif and Sharief have not seen eye-to-eye on a number of issues.

Pakistan is expecting a substantive agenda for talks with Modi while India is pitching for a more “getting to know each other” kind of meeting. The bilateral, scheduled for a brief 30 minutes on Tuesday, can hardly be expected to cover the gamut of issues. But Pakistan, which will include (besides Sharif) foreign policy adviser Sartaj Aziz and party leader Tariq Fatemi, is likely to ask for the resumption of composite dialogue which was disrupted after the 26/11 attacks. The dialogue has long outlived its usefulness but nobody has yet found a replacement for it.

India, for its part, will be watching to see if Sharif meets the separatist Hurriyat group, which has been a regular feature in every Pak leader’s visit. There is no formal word yet of such a meeting taking place.

Amitabh called Chandrababu over phone on Saturday and extended his greetings, TDP sources said. “I wish you many more successes,” Amitabh was quoted as telling Chandrababu, who is set to take charge as Chief Minister of (new) Andhra Pradesh soon.

Chandrababu and Amitabh enjoy good friendship since the former’s stint as Chief Minister of (undivided) Andhra Pradesh.

More Trouble for Jagan!

More Trouble for Jagan!

More Trouble for Jagan!

Beleaguered YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is likely to pay hefty price for the alleged irregularities he has done while his father-late CM YSR was in chair. According to highly placed sources, Enforcement Directorate is going to attach more properties of Jagan Reddy and his associates very soon. Buzz is that these properties are going to be valued at “hundreds of crores”. Already in the first week of March 2014, ED has attached assets of Jagan & Co. worth Rs 863 Crore under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). ED attached these properties based on its investigation on the six CBI chargesheets.

According to latest reports, ED is now in the last leg of investigation on the seven other CBI chargesheets. Several “disproportionate assets” have reportedly been identified in the fresh investigation by ED. This is said to be the first big anti-Corruption initiative after Modi assumes PMO.

Jagan was arrested by CBI in May 2012 and continued in jail until September 2013. He was later released on bail. The CBI investigation showed that Jagan’s assets overnight grew from less than Rs 10 lakh to hundreds of crores when his late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was the CM of AP. Looks like, Jagan is going to face more trouble in days to come. Even if one goes by rule book, Jagan Reddy’s Lakhs of Crores wealth would be confiscated and this would be used as public exchequer.

Flash: YSRC MP Met Babu, Joins TDP!

Even before TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu took oath as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, crunching has already begun in beleaguered YSR Congress Party. In what is seen as big jolt to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, sitting Nandyala MP SPY Reddy, who represents Nandyala Parliament, has formally met Chandra Babu Naidu in New Delhi Today.

SPY Reddy officially stated that he has joined TDP after meeting Babu. With this, the strength of TDP-BJP combine in Lok Sabha from Andhra Pradesh would increase by 1 taking the total count to 18 from present 17 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats. Meanwhile, reports are rife that another YSRCP MP, Kurnool Lok Sabha member Butta Renuka too keen to meet Babu and likely to join TDP soon. Butta Renuka’s husband too met Chandra Babu and joined TDP already. Political analysts predict that this is going to have adverse affect on all the MLAs under these two Parliament segments in Kurnool.

It is widely buzzed that Jagan’s attitude is compelling senior leaders like SPY Reddy to shift the party. SPY Reddy is confident to contest again from the constituency if no-confidence motion is moved by YSRCP. Also reports are rife that ED is going to take on YS Jagan very soon as they gathered substantial evidence against Jagan. All these factors are working in favour of TDP and against to Jagan.

Gandhinagar: Anandiben Patel is the new Chief Minister of Gujarat and the first woman to hold the post in the state. Anandiben, a close associate of her predecessor, the PM-elect, Narendra Modi, had his firm backing even though there were reservations in some quarters over her candidature.

Anandiben was considered to be the frontrunner for the post as till a few months back, when Modi was busy campaigning for the general elections, she was at the forefront of the state administration.

She was heading the group of ministers and enjoyed the complete confidence of Modi.

Her appointment came minutes after Modi resigned as the Gujarat CM.

Under Modi, India will find place among world powers: Chandrababu Naidu

I am very confident that under Modi’s leadership, the country has a bright future, Naidu said.

India will find a place among the world powers with Narendra Modi at the helm and the “real competition” for the country will be the USA and China, former NDA convener and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu said on Tuesday as he hailed the BJP’s prime minister-elect.

Addressing the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting, the Seemandhra leader extended full support to Modi, whom he described as a a leader with “extraordinary capabilities”. Naidu’s TDP is a key partner in the BJP-led coalition.

“India should be among the likes of USA and China. There may be some developed countries (but) real competition is with US and also China,” Naidu said while expressing confidence that “Narendra Modi will do it”.

“For this nation building, we are partners with Narendra Modi. We extend on behalf of TDP all cooperation for his great (endeavour) to clean up the country and also develop it,” he said. “I have seen so many leaders, but his (Modi’s) determination and enthusiasm is extraordinary,” Naidu said.

Slamming the former Congress-led government for its alleged misrule, the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister said that the country was waiting for Modi’s leadership.”People are fed up with Congress — corruption and also inefficiency and non-governance. I am very confident that  under his leadership, the country has a bright future,” Naidu said.

He said that Modi will also become prime minister after five years in 2019 and “we will have to do much more under his leadership”. “Again in 2019, Narendra Modi will be the prime minister and many more times… that is our wish, that is our desire and that is the desire of the nation,” Naidu said.

Arvind Kejriwal arrested in Nitin Gadkari defamation case

Delhi Police on Wednesday arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal and took him in judicial custody till May 23 after a court’s order in a defamation case filed by former BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

Gadkari had filed the defamation case before Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha where he contended that Kejriwal had tarnished his image by calling him corrupt.

The court recorded the statement of Gadkari and two other witnesses. The complaint said that on January 31, “Kejriwal has deliberately released the list of India’s most corrupt people mentioning his (Gadkari’s) name in a grossly irresponsible manner”.

Kejriwal “has deliberately tried to malign (Gadkari’s) image though he is not involved in any wrongful or corrupt act,” the complaint stated, requesting the court to act against the AAP chief and prosecute him for defaming the former BJP president.

Gadkari told the court that the false, baseless, scandalous, and defamatory statements and news items by Kejriwal against him have been widely published, circulated and read by public at large and have lowered his dignity in the eyes of the public.

He had added that such defamatory statements were made with ulterior motive and wrongful intent to malign and tarnish his image.

Being then a chief minister, Kejriwal failed to maintain the dignity of the post by making a false statement against a responsible and highly respected public figure, the petition said, filed by counsel Ajay Digpaul.

He added that the act was done with intention to harm the reputation of Gadkari, which would help Kejriwal to advance his political agenda and gain media attention.

The complainant also mentioned the name of Ashutosh, national spokesperson of AAP, for reiterating Kejriwal’s statement without verifying the correctness of allegations.

Murali Mohan set for bigger role?

According to highly reliable sources in TDP, actor-turned-politician Murali Mohan, who won as Rajahmundry MP in recent Lok Sabha polls, is all set for bigger role in Narendra Modi’s government. Sources confine that Murali Mohan would be given a Central Ministry in Modi’s cabinet. Meanwhile, senior most TDP leader Ashok Gajapathi Raju is in race for Cabinet berth in Modi’s cabinet.

Murali Mohan recently met Narendra Modi along with TDP supremo Chandra Babu Naidu and Modi apparently given assurance to Murali Mohan on allotting helping Ministry. Murali Mohan has been a staunch TDP supporter and he lost to Congress MP Undavalli Arun Kumar in 2009 elections with a very slender majority.Looks like, good days are ahead for Murali Mohan. Unlike before, TDP is expected to play a larger role in NDA and BJP’s government this time around considering the bond Modi and Babu share. Let’s see how far Modi-Babu combine work for newly formed Seemandhra.
