Microsoft, the multi-national software company, is going to have a change in the leadership soon as the current Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer has recently announced his retirement. The search is on to find out the potential successor to Steve and the company has constituted a special committee to take a final call.
As of now, Hyderabad-born Satya Nadella is the front runner to claim the prestigious position of Microsoft CEO. Currently, Satya heads the company’s cloud and enterprise group and it was his team which delivered the ‘Cloud OS’ which is Microsoft’s next generation backend platform.
Satya, a native of Hyderabad, is an electrical engineering student from Mangalore University. He later earned a master’s degree in compute science from the University of Wisconsin and master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago. Till 1991, Satya worked for Sun Microsystems and joined Microsoft in 1992. He served as the President of Microsoft’s Server and Tools Business which combinedly worth Rs 19 billion. He was also senior Vice President of R&D for the Online Services Division and Vice President of the Microsoft Business Division for a period of time.
Till now, Microsoft has seen only two CEOs – Co-founder Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. Satya Nadella will be the third person to claim the honor if everything falls in place.
